Mini Vacation

At the end of spring break week, we spent a long weekend in central Oregon. After arriving Thursday night, we woke up Friday morning to snow!!

Throwing snowballs.

No, not at Mommy!
Yes, throw them at Daddy.
The next day it was 60 degrees and the snow completely melted. So it was time for bike riding.
Here we are riding back home after swimming in the indoor pool. All good and perfect for a very active little boy!

Snow

We got one of those rare snows in Portland! Guthrie, Jake, and I took a walk to the bakery for bread for our soup. Took these pictures when we got back -- you can see that the top of Jake's hat is white.
Eating organic Oregon snow. Ha!
Snow was still coming down heavily. Pretty!
With the flash off, you can't see the snowflakes.
This one learned from Guthrie how to make snow angels!
Happy!
Meanwhile... Mike had gone to the coast of Oregon to work for the day. He got totally stuck coming back -- had to take an alternate route and then creeped along highway 26 towards home. I had to go pick him up at a meeting point since there was no way the prius was going to get him home. I have never been so thankful for AWD and snow tires -- my car performed beautifully, while there were lots of cars parked all over the roads. Finally got him home at 10:30pm, after a 6 hour commute. The joys and perils of snow in the northwest!!

It's still beautiful, though!

It snowed again today. I didn't take any pictures. Because... again? How many times can it possibly snow in one winter in Portland?

Eating Snow

We woke up to snow this morning! It seems so unusual to me to have this much snow in Portland this many times. Jake loved it and today he discovered he likes eating snow!

Yum!
Cold!

Doll Sling

There was more playtime today. The kids pulled out this doll sling that I had gotten just after Jake was born but he hadn't shown any interest until now. Isn't that cute!?
Skylar loved it, too. She kept walking around with the doll in there and would pat its bottom on occasion.
They even went in for a "family" group hug :)
Meanwhile, it snowed on and off all day. We've had temperatures in the 20's this week, but today it was hovering around 35, so the streets were pretty slushy. They are frozen tonight!

December Snow II

The snow looked so beautiful and Jake wanted to go outside, so we got all bundled up.
Theo came outside and immediately turned around and went back inside.

Snow plow fail. Sorry, you're just a dump truck.
There was a lot of snow!
Then we went inside and Jake had hot chocolate and mama had hot tea.

December Snow

We woke up late this morning. Jake got out of bed and wandered out, then came back and was pointing to the window, so we opened up the bedroom window...
SNOW!
Getting a better look...
Daddy signing "snow". Jake was so excited. Then he kept asking where the rocks went, you know, the gravel rocks for the driveway? We had to repeat several times that the rocks were "covered by the snow" and "under the snow" before he finally seemed to understand.
It is very cold out today! The cats went outside for all of 90 seconds. I think I'll put on the fire and grab a good book. Oh, we also have the second Narnia movie to watch (not Jake), so that will be fun!
