Oaks Bottom

Yesterday Mike, Jake, Donny, and myself went hiking locally in Portland at Oaks Bottom. I'd never been there but this trail with lots of trees and birds (we saw great herons!) is less than 5 miles from our house. The trail was mostly flat, and was a 2.8 mile loop.

Jake spotted the train tracks in the picture.

Finding a slug was delightful.

Boy throwing rocks into the water.
If you look closely, you can find the great heron.
Jake was worn out from running along the trail (and throwing rocks) and fell asleep on Daddy before we got back to the car. This was the start of a 3 hour nap!

Four Months

I'm pretty much seeing the end of the nausea (yay!!) and am now feeling the baby move and kick multiple times a day. This is the best part of pregnancy. I can't wait, when, in a few weeks, Mike and Jake will be able to feel the baby move.
And some bonus pictures... a very active little boy with boo-boos on his knees. We are having to stock up on bandaids. Fortunately, strawberries make it a lot better.
I love this cute picture -- caught him reading.

The Magic Word

This morning Daddy was sleeping in. Jake decided 6am was a good time to wake up (sigh) and so Mama got up with him. After awhile, Jake went in to check on Daddy, who was still very much asleep and refusing to open his eyes.

Jake shook him, and when Daddy finally opened his eyes a crack, Jake signed "coffee."

LOL! Smart boy.

Some Favorite Things

Reason #28 why I love spring/summer:
And Jake doing one of his favorite things: reading Calvin and Hobbes. He truly does laugh at some of the pictures.

Personality

Only ONE month until Jake turns THREE!!!

Yesterday the following occurred:

Jake was watching a Thomas the Train movie, one that he is really excited about and into because this one is computer animated with the train's faces move while they speak (rather than just the eyes moving and being 'narrated.') I was reading a book.

Jake looks at me and catches me watching the movie. "What are you doing, Mama?"

"I'm reading my book."

"Please read."

Apparently he didn't want me to watch his movie!!

Funny boy.

Bubbles!

For three years now, Jake has LOVED baths. Sometimes he would request more than one bath in a day just because they were so much fun. But lately, despite the variety of bath toys he has at his disposal, he hasn't really wanted to take baths. This, combined with lots of outdoor time spent in grass and dirt, is not a very good combination. So what did this Mama do? Got some bubble bath!! He's never had bubble bath before, and I'm glad I saved it for now. And he eagerly climbed into the bath with the bubbles and had a grand time.

Saturday Hike

Today while I attended a conference, Mike and Jake went on a hike with friends to Latourell Falls in the Gorge.
Jake had so much fun with buddies LilyAnna and Brandon.
That is one cool Daddy! Jake on his front, and the backpack on his back.
They loved seeing the different waterfalls.
It was a nice 2.3 mile hike. Thanks to Donny for taking the pictures!
(And for helping out with 3 kids, none of whom were his!)

Happy Mother's Day

I really enjoyed my mother's day. It was a nice day spent at the farmer's market in the morning then at home with my two boys the rest of the day. With lots of good food that I enjoyed cooking.

My boys surprised me with roses and this gigantic Elmo card that Jake picked out that just made me laugh and laugh (in a good, heartwarming way).
Hope everyone had a wonderful mother's day!

No Title

Some photos from the last few days (see what happens when Mama feels so much better)...

Jake playing with Daddy's drum.
Being silly together -- we're getting ready to leave for dinner at a friend's house.

The little "native American." Daddy painted him!

Mornin'

Friday morning with mama...

Jake helped me make blueberry muffins ready to go into the oven.
Notice the blueberry-covered lips...
Then it was time for playdough! Kayla the nanny made a new batch yesterday.

Boy Hair

I'm amazed at how fast Jake's hair grows, and how often I have to take him to get his hair cut (unlike me, but we won't talk about that).

What's great is that he actually LOVES going to get a haircut now, the place he goes to is full of toys and his hairdresser, Julie, is so wonderful with him. When I informed him he was going to get a haircut, he said "plane," and I figured out he wanted to sit in the airplane chair this time -- which is amazing because he remembered it and because he has always sat in the red car before, never the airplane. So this time he sat in the airplane and had a great time.

Trains and Stars

Mama got creative and made a "garage" for Jake's trains.
Jake got two new additions to his Thomas the train collection today, Emily the train and Harold the helicopter!!
A boy and his trains.
I love this photo. You can also see his new pajamas with the stars on it -- they have become his favorite pajamas now.
