Over the weekend I could definitely feel things growing. I hope things slow down because this is what I looked like at about 5 months with Jake!
Am starting to feel much better, my energy is back. Am still having bouts of nausea, but not as intense. Really looking forward to the second trimester!

Girl's Weekend
This past weekend I flew to Phoenix for a bachelorette weekend for my good friend Sara. The 8 of us girls had a fantastic time with lots of laughter, chatting, and sun. And we did a few other things, too...
Including taking a pole dancing class! It was lots of fun, a good workout, and yes, hilarious.
Me on the pole.
Sara was SO good at it! The class lasted over an hour and we learned a whole routine that included a sexy walk, dancing and spinning around the pole, and floor movements.
The next morning we went to the Golden Doors spa at The Boulders. Here we're all in our robes and ready for our spa treatments! I had a maternity massage.
Afterwards we hung out at the pool all day with a break for lunch. I'm sitting here with Carrie. It was so nice to be in the sun and chat non-stop with the girls.
Then we got all dolled up for drinks at The Sanctuary bar and dinner at Bloom. The other girls were lucky to have me as a designated driver :)
Bottom row: Tara, Sara, Heather, Leah. Top row: Lee, Lindsay, Carrie, Amy.
The next day Sunday I flew home. This little guy picked me up at the airport. Good thing he was not driving. I just love how he's holding on to his trains, Thomas and Gordon. He had a great weekend with Daddy, which included a trip to the zoo.

My Boy
Today it is only TWO months before Jake turns three. Wow.
He is growing up so much now, and is so much a BOY. Growing up with only a sister, I am constantly startled to learn what boy behavior is, and looks like, and it makes me laugh! Recently he surprised us by completely mastering use of the potty, both at home and elsewhere (Gramma's and Papa's house! Whole Foods! Art Center!) and Mike and I are very, very grateful for a 6 month break from changing diapers. However, we do need to work on the habit of just pulling off the pants and underwear and peeing on the grass, however delightful that may seem.
His language development continues to explode, and he's just a little chatterbox now. Sometimes we compete for Gramma's attention while talking! Using sign language isn't as easy as just talking, but now he regularly gives us 3-4 word sentences in sign language, and understands everything. It's so much fun talking about more abstract concepts, such as the sun coming up every morning.
In addition to starting to learn how to sign the ABC's, I often catch him singing the ABC song to himself, and moving his fingers to fingerspell them at the same time. He does this side-to-side head bob during this song and it never fails to make me laugh.
Jake is interested in helping us with everything. We recently made an applesauce cake together, with him helping me to measure and pour all the ingredients. Mike was preparing some halibut for the grill, and Jake told him he was using too much lemon, ha! He also helped with picking up the grass after Mike had to use the weed wacker to tame the lawn, before he could use the lawn mower.
One of his favorite games with Daddy is to play chase. For a long time he's loved being chased by Daddy, but has recently figured out that he can be the one to chase Daddy! With Mama he loves to cuddle and read books, and we have been making trips to the library for new books to read.
It's a busy, busy time, but so much fun.

Happy Easter
When we walked in the door at Gramma and Papa's house, Jake immediately spotted his Easter basket and started playing before we could get his jacket off. Yay for Easter excitement!
A Thomas the Train book!
What's inside the carrot?
Three "baby rabbits" as Jake said.
Hiding the rabbits in the basket.
The eggs for eating. My family is funny like that.
After a wonderful brunch, the egg hunt began. There were plastic eggs with different things inside each egg, such as little rubber lizards, small animals, or chocolate. Jake would find each egg, open it up, examine the contents, and then state that he needed "more eggs!" We had to help him find them, but he squealed in delight at spotting each egg.
If you look really carefully to the right in the picture, you can see a purple egg "hidden" on top of the candle holder!
Looking at the treasures.
Couldn't get him to smile.

Look Ma, No Hat (and no pants, either)
After a very long time of gray skies, cold temperatures, and rain, Portland got sunshine and warmth this weekend! The little one was thrilled, and threw off his pants and went cavorting around the backyard.
The cats were thrilled, as well. Theo loved hunting in the long grass. Which is still long because the weed wacker died on us and the lawn is too dense to cut with the reel mower right now.
We got some of the plants that had been killed by the winter snows out of the ground (and out of sight) and got our first crops in the ground -- peas, carrots, beets, and swiss chard.
