2011 Multnomah Days

It was time for Multnomah Days, including the parade, again! Mike went down early with chairs, iPhone, and got some coffee and nabbed a spot in the shade for us (it was a day that was predicted to get up to 90, which it did).

By chance, Ali and Skylar joined us for the parade-watching.

You can see Jake waving his arm "throw candy my way!!" He had his arm up practically the whole parade. Very cute.

Our gang.
Kids scrambling for candy.

Home from the parade with a slightly-smeared shark and cherry-red lips from a popsicle. Fun!
That afternoon Mike and I rolled up our sleeves, donned aprons, and processed about 80 peaches. We got Jake to take a picture of us.

Parade, Year 3

Waiting for the annual Multnomah Village Days Parade to start. This year I was smart and sent Mike down early with chairs to get a good spot.
Then it started! First came the dogs...

and a llama.

Then the candy madness started!

This robot is so cool.
Hula hoopers.
Bagpipes. What a noise! (I liked the marching band better.)
Plug-in electric hybrid car. Drool.
Loot.

Batman tossing candy instead of bad guys.

Then face painting after the parade was over.
Happy.

Multnomah Days

Every year our village has Multnomah Days (which should really be called Multnomah Day because it is only a one-day affair, but whatever). It is still a wonderful and fun event and I'm sure we'll be going for years to come, especially since we don't have to worry about parking!

Jake and I left the house in the morning (Mike was working) and wandered down into the village before the parade started. All the booths were set up. It's really neat to be able to walk down the middle of this street once a year.
The parade started, and first came the pooches. Lots of pooches, and many of them were dressed up. Quite amusing.
Jake lit up when he saw the 2 fire trucks come down the street!
With his balloon, waiting for more parade.
Signing "candy." The parade cars/people/groups throw candy to the kids watching the parade. In the beginning, Jake had no idea what to expect and just watched other kids scramble to pick up candy pieces. Then he finally got it but then there was a long, dry spell where no candy was thrown, and if it was, the bigger/older kids got to it first. Jake started to get discouraged and was turning to me every 2 minutes. "Candy." It was so sad for this mama!! So I finally had to get up and encourage the parade people to throw candy in his direction and then defend the area for Jake while telling him to "Go get it!! Pick up the candy!!" He finally got a few pieces and was quite pleased. Then two different older kids voluntarily came up to Jake and gave him a piece, each (they had goodie bags quite full). Very sweet.
There is a new mural being put up and it was cool to see some of it in the parade.
There were dancers.
The train was a big hit with my little guy. (Who of course wanted to get on it.)
Mama really liked this one. A plug-in hybrid that gets 100 miles to the gallon!
And there were even chickens. Ha.
Jake's "sucking on a hard candy" face.

Halloween Fun

Jake and I carved this pumpkin together in the afternoon. We covered all the basics - eyes, nose, mouth, and ears.
Then Jake got dressed in his costume. Isn't he a cute train engineer?
He was so excited about going down to the Village to trick or treat at the shops! Here he's running down the street, Daddy by his side.
Going into the Village with Aunt Melissa and Uncle Mike!! They are staying a night on their way to a family reunion.

The Village was amazingly crowded!! There were lines to get candy by every shop.
Everyone went down one side of the street and up the other.

Jake bumped into his buddy, Skylar! She makes for a very cute flapper girl!
Jake is very serious when being photographed.
Yup, I'm wearing a pumpkin shirt.
We spotted this hot dog.
Hey, I'm married to a train engineer! (Yup, we ate Thai food on Halloween.)
Yay for having them visit for Halloween fun!
Heading back home... He'd had 1 green lollipop and ran around for a good 20-30 minutes. Sugar crash starting in 3-2-1...
We got home and got to work carving the other 2 pumpkins.

We handed out fair-trade dark chocolates and organic lollipops. I hope we have some leftover!
Happy Halloween!
