Brazil Part 1

The three of us traveled to Bahia, Brazil from March 30 to April 9th for our belated honeymoon. (Yes, a honeymoon with Jake, but we are a family and it felt right, and I am so glad we did it this way.)

I spent an entire week before the trip packing and organizing everything. You can see here all of the STUFF that I laid out, ready to pack into suitcases.
Two days before we left, this is what it looked like in our backyard. Very strange going from this to the tropics.
March 30th 2008, at the Portland airport, checking in for our flight. We flew from Portland to Chicago to Sao Paulo, Brazil.
At the Sao Paulo airport, waiting for our flight to Ilheus, Brazil, which is 2 hours north of Sao Paulo on the coast.
This is where Mike got his first coffee in Brazil, at the airport.
We stayed at this hotel in Ilheus and met Peter and some of the other workshop participants here. We had one night here before traveling further north to where we were staying for the week.
Our bed at this hotel. The painting above the bed was very strange. We had a good sleep after having slept on the plane the night before (the flight from Chicago to Sao Paulo is 10.5 hours long).
The next day, in Ilheus, we got on the bus that was taking us north.
Jake was happy to travel with doggie.
The bus. It was air conditioned. Thank the goddess.
At the end of our 2 hour bus ride was a boat for a 2 hour ride even further north!! Crazy, but it was totally worth it. The boat ride was beautiful.
On the boat.
Views on the water.
People on a traditional canoe hitched a ride with a motor-powered boat.
Jake did lots of this during the trip. Kept him hydrated! It was wonderfully warm and humid.
We arrived at Barra Grande, the tip of a penisula somewhere on the west coast of Brazil.
